DC is a city of old doors. A Shaw rowhouse might still have a 1920s mortise lock behind a newer deadbolt; a Navy Yard tower uses fobs and a front-desk log; a Georgetown carriage house has a garage lock nobody has touched in years. Telling dispatch which of those you are dealing with saves a second trip.
Here is the short version. You call 202-753-3702. Dispatch asks where you are, what kind of lock it is and what happened. You hear an approximate estimate based on that description. A locksmith is sent, looks at the actual lock and confirms the price before starting.
No surprises in the paperwork either: the full price list and the terms are on this site, word for word.

Deadbolt, knob, mortise, smart lock, padlock, or a car's make and year.
ID with the address, a lease or a registration. The locksmith will ask before opening anything.
Lost keys, a snapped key, a jammed bolt or a break-in. Each one changes the tools and the estimate.
